Step 1: Create your product

Step 1 of 7 · Make your first product

Everything in Sigmira starts here, by taking one of the products you already sell and giving it permission to be personalised. Rather than building a separate catalogue or duplicating anything, you’re pointing at an existing WooCommerce product and opening a workshop on top of it. By the end of this step you’ll be standing inside the product editor, the canvas where the rest of the tutorial happens, so it’s worth getting your bearings here before we start adding views and print areas.

Add the product

  1. In the Sigmira Dashboard, open Products.
  2. Click + Add customizable product.
  3. In the Add a customizable product window, search by name or external ID and choose your product.

Sigmira creates the customisation setup and opens the product editor.

Tip: the Products list can be filtered with the All, Products, Bundles and Enabled chips, and searched with Search by name or external ID…, handy once you have a lot of products.

Get to know the product editor

The product editor is where you build what customers can do. It has three things to understand:

  • Views — the sides or surfaces of the product (for example Front and Back). You switch between them along the top. Each view is its own canvas.
  • Print areas — the regions within a view where customers may place text and images. Anything outside a print area can’t be customised.
  • Layers — the individual pieces of content (a text line, an image, a shape). Default layers you add here become the product’s starting design.

The workflow

Setting up a product is three steps, in this order:

  1. Set up your views — add a view for each side, and set its size.
  2. Add print areas — mark where customers can design, and set the print output for each.
  3. Add default text, images & layers — optional starting content, like a placeholder name or a logo.

When you’re happy, click Save All to save every view at once.
