Key concepts in 2 minutes
Every tool has its own handful of words that, once they click, make everything else obvious, and Sigmira is no exception. Spend two minutes here and the rest of this guide stops feeling like jargon: you’ll know a view from a print area, and why a template isn’t quite the same thing as a format. None of it is complicated; it’s just worth meeting the cast before the story starts, so nothing later trips you up.
The building blocks
-
Product — one of your WooCommerce products that you’ve switched on for customisation. Your catalogue, prices and stock stay in WooCommerce; Sigmira just adds personalisation on top.
-
View — one printable side or surface of a product. A t-shirt might have a Front and a Back view; a mug might have just one. Each view is its own canvas.
-
Print area — the region within a view where customers are allowed to add text and images. It also defines the real-world print size (in millimetres) and the file your printer receives.
-
Layer — a single piece of content on the canvas: a line of text, an image, a shape. You add default layers; customers add their own.
-
Template — a ready-made starting design customers can pick instead of a blank canvas.
-
Format — a named size/aspect ratio (square, A4, …) that links templates to the views they fit.
-
Print method — a reusable output profile (file format, resolution, print marks) for how a product is produced: screen print, DTF, engraving, and so on.
How they fit together
You switch on a product → it has one or more views → each view has a print area → customers fill it with layers (optionally starting from a template) → you produce the result using a print method.
That’s the whole model. Everything else in this guide is detail on top of these seven words.
