Formats
Formats are the quiet bit of plumbing that keeps templates and products compatible, so a customer is never offered a design that simply won’t fit. A format is just a named size or aspect ratio (square, A4, a custom shape) and templates are built against one while product views opt in to the formats they accept. Set this up once and your template library stays tidy and mistake-proof as it grows. Here’s what a format is and how to add your own.
What a format is for
Formats keep templates and products compatible. As the Formats page puts it: Named aspect ratios. Templates are designed against a format; product views opt in to which formats they accept. So a template built for a square (1:1) format will only ever appear on views that accept 1:1; customers never get a template that doesn’t fit.
Sigmira ships some standard formats (shown with a Sigmira source badge and marked read-only); you can add your own.
Add a format
- Open Templates → Manage Formats (or go to Formats) and click + Add Format.
- Fill in the New Format form:
- Name — a short label (e.g. Business Card).
- Width units and Height units — the aspect-ratio components.
- Active — inactive formats stay in use where already attached, but won’t appear in pickers.
- Sort order — where it sits in lists.
- Click Save Changes.
Manage formats
The Formats list shows each format’s Ratio, Source (Sigmira or Custom), how many things it’s Used by, and its Status. Built-in formats are Always on; your own can be toggled On/Off. Filter by All / Custom / Global and search with Search by name or ratio….
