Step 6: Preview it as a customer
Step 6 of 7 · Make your first product
You’ve built it. Now meet it the way your customers will. Clicking through your own product as a buyer is the single fastest way to catch the small things that never show up in setup: a starting design that sits slightly off, a layer you forgot to lock, a fee that doesn’t appear. Five minutes here saves you a refund and an awkward email later, and it’s quietly satisfying to watch your own creation come to life on the storefront.
Take it for a spin
- Open your product’s page on your own store (the normal WooCommerce product page).
- Click Customize This Product. Your editor opens with the starting design you set up.
- Personalise it: type into the text layer, add an image, move things around within the print area.
- Click Add to Cart.
What to check
- Does the starting design look right, and sit inside the print area?
- Can the customer change what you intended (and nothing you wanted locked)? If a layer is editable when it shouldn’t be (or vice versa), revisit Step 4 and its Customer Permissions.
- If you added a fee in Step 5, does the Customization Fee appear on the cart line?
- Try it at a phone-sized width too; most customers will be on mobile.
If anything’s wrong, hop back to the relevant step, fix it, Save All, and try again.
Keep going
